Yes, in the heart of New York city. I left my purse (with a debit card and $200 in it) on a bench in Central Park, about a quarter mile from an exit straight back into the city. I didn't realize it until I walked out and across the street to the subway. I ran back topspeed, knowing in my heart there was no way it would be there. It wasn't. I went to the hotdog vendor nearby to ask if anyone may have given it to him when they saw it sitting there (the chances were extremely minimal). He asked what it looked like and when I described it and the name on the license he handed it right to me. I said "Did you...?" and he shook his head in wonder and pointed down the street to a homeless man. I felt like I was in a movie. "Him?" I asked. "Yes," the vendor said, "the homeless guy." I was with a friend and we ran after him to thank him and give him some of the money (he returned it with EVERYTHING intact!) but he had disappeared already down another city block. I was so moved. I had always been a bit of a pessimist when it came to the humanity of people and he changed that for me forever.
As for the rest, the love of my life saved my spirit, my heart, and my sense of self. They had been lost for years in the past. I am one fortunate person, though. What incredible things to save (and nurture!).

No. I lost a beautiful bracelet walking down Newbury Street in Boston and it was never turned into the police. It was a sentimental piece of jewelry besides being valuable and I would have really appreciated the kindness of a stranger in that case. I've turned in wallets and other things of value - maybe someday someone will return the favor.

Not me personally but a man I know in his 90 lost a pocket knife that he had as a child that had belong to his dad & grandfather he lost it back in the early 1980's. It had his initals & last name on it. Some tourist from out of town where visiting & found the knife while they where walking downtown. They looked him up in the book & returned it to him. It was Christmas Eve & it was so touching to see him have it back.

I had just got my income tax money back about $6000 and I dropped it in a parking lot, it had my licence in it, I thought it was gone for good, and later that day some nice old lady showed up at my door and returned it, I gave her $500 for the return,

Nope...but I have found 2 purses left in shopping carts in parking lots over the years. Turned both of them in to the nearest store. I can't imagine just leaving my purse like that, I think those women must have been quite frantic.
