i was wondering how can you pass the assessment test that some companies require you to take?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most of these exams are of the astronaut-chimp variety. They just want people who can read, write, and do basic math etc. You'll do just fine.

most offer a course by the city if you have problems with the test.
