I remember some time a few years ago when Ashlee Simpson ran offstage during a performance at SNL. She said she had laryngitis or something, causing her not to sing. My question is, why couldn't she just say that she was sick and inable to sing and ask for a rain check or something? Sorry, it's a really random question but I really wanna know :D

cause she really cant sing. and people pay for her that day. people behind snl takes so much time and effort finding somebody to co-host the show and if the celebrity wont show up, it will break the contract.

because it wasn't true, she was just lip-synching for God-knows-what reason, but she didn't have laryngitis....didn't you see how she made up like 3 different excuses? First she blamed it on the band, then she said she had acid reflux...she was just trying to cover up the fact that she was lip-synching. You can't really say it hurt her career, though, she still has a lot of fans.

lip-synch cover up. recording in a studio, you can cover up all kinds of flaws. not so with live performances. the talent-challenged usually get burned on the live stage at some point

It was a lie. She was not sick she was trying to cover up that she was lip syncing
