If you say no then why do most things now have consolation prizes or trophies, didn't it use to be that if you lost you lost, better luck next time. Why is it that now if you lose you get the same prizes and awards as the winners?

It's because somewhere along the line, self esteem became more important than competence. You don't want to mess with little junior's self esteem, so he gets a prize too. That way, even a loser can feel important. Which IS ridiculous.

If the winner won by cheating then yes, but if h played fair and won then the loser shouldn't under any circumstances get the same or bigger prize then the winner. Because the guy fought very hard to win, he deserves that price because he is that good but the loser should get a less valuable prize for trying as hard.

Usually you only see consolation prizes when it comes to things involving children. Most compitions involving adults have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The rest are losers. The consolation prizes for children are there for the basic purpose of saving face and feelings.

Nah, it's not like that. It just depends on the contest. And if the prize is a consolation prize, then you are defeat because you could have still reached a high level and you didn't.

Nobody in America is a loser, God forbid. We all have to have our fragile egos propped up with the smallest of achievements "Oh, Johnny! good for you, you zipped up your own pants!". Johnny is probably 27 years old. We have a lot of losers but "no child is left behind". Ugh.

NO! we win because we try. whether we get a prize or not we still won. losers did not win.
