They don't even live in jungles! I bet the tigers are REALLY pissed about this.

Yeah, elephants are cool, but way too easily manipulated by humans to be the king. Tourists ride on them in Thailand, they've been used as vehicles in warfare, and women in sequin bathing suits stand on them in the circus. Circus tigers on the other hand are not fully trusted and never fully tamed, just look at what happened to Roy from Siegried and Roy.

I'd say the tigers aren't happy- and the jaguars get no love at all. Strictly speaking, lions are kings of the savannah and tall grassy plains.

Unfortunately, when the phrase was coined in a different era by western authors, during a time when very few people other than zoologists/naturalists (who knew better) actually ever visited Africa, and the public misconception was that the whole continent was mostly untamed jungle.

A lion, feeling full of himself, left his den and walked out into the jungle. He grabs a poor zebra by the throat and asks, who's the meanest SOB in the jungle? The terrified zebra says, why you are Mr. lion, everyone knows that. You're damn right says the lion and struts off.Moments later he corners a monkey, slaps it around and asks, who's the king of this jungle? The monkey readily agrees, why you are Mr.lion, everyone knows that.Damn straight says the lion and again struts away.Just on down the trail the lion sees a bull elephant, runs right up in his face, eyeball to eyeball and says, who's the meanest SOB in the jungle? The elephant grabs the lion around the neck with its trunk, slams him into the ground, stomps all over him and then slings him into a tree. The lion slides down the tree, looks at the elephant and says,You don't have to get mad, just because you don't know the answer!

A pride of lions is truly a force to be reckoned with. 9 females and 3 males is one common breakdown. The males job is to fight rival prides of lions whose territory overlaps theirs, like gang warfare, and to kill hyenas. The males generally do not hunt and sleep 20 hours a day, smell the females killed something, and muscle their way in to eat. Only noblemen and royalty didn't work hard to get their own meals many centuries ago, and lions. They also have a large mane which some early biologists said looked sort of like a crown a king would wear.

No for different reasons. 1. They don't live in the jungle. 2. The tiger is bigger. 3. The jaguar is stronger. 3. The cheetah is faster.

lion is said to be the king of jungle because of its looks. maybe in the past, they used to dominate the jungle. the name won't come so easily. lions are always used as symbolism for courage, bravery and also its hunting techniques. tigers are to the side.

I thought they lived on the plains.

If you want to consider tigers' territory - Asia, I think Asian or indian elephants are kings there.

The elephant is the finest animal in Asia

It's only a romantic denomination. Nothing to do with the real thing. Tigers don't care, they are really elusive and don't look for fame at all.
