The actors thought that the series had run it's course, and also some of the actors were demanding MEGA wages!

Multiple reasons.
1.) They had already filmed 10 series and were running out of ideas to keep the show fresh.
2.) Some cast members, though not all, wanted to pursue other projects, and the were rumours they had fallen out.
3.) The cast were starting to demand ridiculous sums, something like £1 million per episode, which they got for the last few. They never would have been able to carry on paying that much.

When a TV programme is so popular, it is always best for it to quit while it is ahead. History tells us that there is nothing to be gained from continuing until it petres out.
In the case of Friends, I imagine the cast has some say in this. They would have been less likely to be able to successfully pursue individual careers if they had carried on much longer.

The show is about 20 somethings and after 10 years no one was twentysomething anymore.

It was time for them to move on. The showed aired 10 seasons.

Probably because it was a load of rubbish. Who would believe that a load of people that age would all live together and socialise together and get so excited every time one of them entered the room? Perhaps now we can go back to being normal instead of everyone trying to copy those morons.
