Any idea how many presidents were raised by single mothers?

Gerry Ford also born to a single mother. Many others as well. Even though the job of single mother has only recently been celebrated, those women have ALWAYS been doing the noble thing. And it is more than 2.

I don't have the details, but there's a book - Facts About the Presidents, by Joseph Nathan Kane - which has hundreds of pages of details like these.

It's very dry reading, but a good reference. It's updated every few years. Someone else might have taken it over by now.

No ideal... but based on the behavior and responsibility shown by most of the children of single mothers I know... you could pick them out by their outstanding service. Thank God for mothers that care.

I thought Clinton was the only one... and didn't she remarry sometime when he was young?

Most presidents would have had both parents around, since the whole "single motherhood is great" theory of life is relatively new.

Except for Brown who had two mothers all the rest had one.
