Let's see what do they do? They write resolutions that never get followed, they rape and pillage, and also make a lot of money like they did while on Saddam's payroll. they also use their diplomatic status to traffic drugs in and out of the US. They do quite a bit.

United Nations, as useless as you can get. With a 190 or so members and third world tin horn dictators, name 5 that help the US in time of need. And, yet we supply 25+% of money to run it. Sick of the Usless Nations.

Is this a rhetorical question?
I think considering the fact that it began as an advocate of communism and has never retreated from that stance is proof enough that its primary function was to get the U.S. involved in conflicts where America would commit vast resources and either lose or just give up - Korea, Vietnam and now Iraq.
As to what they do? Take up prime Manhattan real estate that should be re-developed.

They do a lot of good on the humanitarian front through organizations as UNICEF and UNESCO.People seem to forget they are also part of the UN.
In armed conflicts they are often useless and not effective but it's silly to blame UN.The UN depends on the security council where it comes to using military force.The five permanent veto power members hardly ever agree when and how to use military force.To blame the UN is to blame the world community.

The only country the UN passes more resolutions against than the United States, is Israel. And the United States vetos more UN resolutions than any other country does. If they're our puppets, the strings have clearly been cut.
If liberals think the UN is our puppets, conservatives think the UN is against us, and no one thinks we pay it any attention, why can't we agree to pull out of it? Wouldn't that be better, from every point of view?

Volleyball -- The UN is hardly the "puppet" of the US... the UN routinely criticizes and goes against the wishes of the US. That hardly qualifies as "puppet" status.
Since I can't name a single "good" thing (or anything for that matter) that the UN has done in the last decade, I'd say they are definitely the "Useless Nations".

They complain to the american people as to why we don't give enough money to support the world. We need to dismantle that organization as it has proven to be useless. It should be renamed as United Nations Against America.

they have a forum to discuss things. very little actually happens. an organization is only as good as its members. reforms are needed.
leogirl. do you have links to the rape and drug smuggling allegations you make?
this is not ,TY. while i don't condone those that used their positions for illegal acts,it is hardly a reason to condemn or blame the UN. i don't blame US military as a whole for the acts of a few in haditha or the soldiers that smuggled coke while fighting the war on drugs.

Ask Kofi Annan. Among other things, Kofi's M.O. goes like this:
1. Ignore genocide;
2. Steal money for food programs;
3. Dodge straight questions about #1 and #2.
4. Shift blame for everything to the U.S.
Contrary to what other answers claim, the U.N. is extremely anti-American despite the U.S. paying roughly a quarter of all UN dues.
