Water buffalo have no gills as they are sub-members of the bovine family....however, there is a fish called the "River Buffalo" also known as a Gasper Goo, a sheepshead, silver bass, a grinder, a croaker or more commonly, it is referred to as the Freshwater Drum. I couldn't find out how many gills it has, but I'm guessing it's the average number for a fish. (??) Good luck with your buffalo research!
