Who do you work for and where do you live?.
In the UK you are intitled to 7 days self certified sickness after which time you need a Drs letter. Self certificate means just that .You inform your employer that you will be off and when you return you complete the form and thats that. No employer has the right to dispute this, although they can ask you to attend an occupational health program.
Just ignore the fact your boss was funny with you - perhaps she didn't believe you but that's her problem not yours. legally you have a right to sick leave.
As for it being your probation period ,- when you feel better go back, work hard, show up on time and be pleasant.Easy!
Good luck.
( if you live in the US - i don't know what rights you have)

The Family Medical leave only covers after you have worked for the company 12 months.
The company could argue that since you are on a probationary period you are considered to be still in training. Companies lose money due to decreased productivity when training a new employee so they could argue that even though you were really sick your illness was costing the company too much money because due to your absense you will take longer to get fully trained.
Sorry to say but yeah that can fire you.
All you can do if you were really sick is maybe take in your proof and hope you are dealing with decent people who see more than just the bottom line.

This time 2 years ago I was on a 6 month probation cos I started my job in Nov 04. What I did was that I never went off sick in my probation cos you dont get sick pay in probation! Anyway, regarding your question: I would have seen your boss first before going home. Well you can proove with a sick / doctors note. Also, do you have a union rep? If so, see them

You need to get a note from the hospital where you were. They should not be able to fire you if you were realy in the hospital. You should also try to call your local WORK FORCE CENTER they are there to help answer you questions about that kinda thing and they will help you find another job if you do get fired. But, a job is kinda like public school you need to have a note from the doctor or have a good excuse for missing work.
GOOD LUCK and HOPE YA FEEL BETTER.

If you don't have an understanding boss, and the work that she hired you to do is not getting done, she will sack you. She will get someone else to do the work. Your timing is bad, no doubt about it. You could speak to HR, see if you can get a doctor's note to try to save your job. The best idea would be to find another job, you may have tainted your boss against you. Bosses aren't very understanding in general. I would try a fresh start with another one. In the mean time get yoursself more healthy!

re time off work due too sickness, the hospital and your doctor should be able to give you conformation of your time in hospital, also regarding your probationary period until you have been in employment for one full year an employer can terminate your employment without a proper reason, but if you can prove that it was due to your time spent in hospital and having to go home because of this illness or condition you have a very strong case for wrong full dismissal. good luck. p.s I advise you to join a union , your employer does not need to know about this and it would be very help full in these situations.

Unfortuantely, since you're in your proationary period, they can let you go for an reason. Just go and talk to your boss, explain the situation and bring a copy of the hospital discharge papers, which should state that you left AMA (against medical advice).

You will just have to keep your fingers crossed and hope and trust that your boss will take excuse into consideration and then give you a chance,I do hope you will be given that chance.

Sick = sick... show her the bill from the hospital or something like that... if she doesn't trust you... so you can show her that she should trust you.
