Rameses II, also known as Rameses the Great, was by far the most important Egyptian Pharaoh. In addition to what others have said, he pursued a policy of aggressive expansion and extensive trade with Nubia and other nearby societies. He also outlived (I believe) more than ten of his children. Of course, that's probably because he had more than a hundred over the entire course of his life. He lived to a very old age, which made him seem immortal, thereby reaffirming the Egyptian ideal of divine right.

Following his rule, Egypt began to decline. Nobody could live up to his accomplishments and this meant that all the work he had done could not be extended by the pharaohs that came after him.

Depends on what you consider "important". I agree with the answers "Ramesses II" if importance is measured in political and military might.

For me, it would be Akhenaton (1380-1362 BC), originally known as Amenhotep IV, the first truly individual intellect in the line of highly conservative rulers of a highly conservative society. He dared to be different - by introducing a monotheistic religion, by appearing as a family father and an individual in official art and by being a religious poet. After his death, the powers of conservative restoration did what they could to undo what Akhenaten did; so his importance as the first true revolutuionary on the pharao's throne only bekame known in modern times.
