I am a dyed to the wool democrat. But I do remember when Ford took office. MY thoughts are that he was an hornorable man and I believe he deserves our respect.

He inherited a "mess" due to Nixon and did a fine job of moving America forward.

I'm reminded of the Simpson's episode, where Bush senior moves across the street from the Simpsons, and he and Homer were always at odds, until the Bush's were driven away...and Ford moved in...with much more in common with Homer, like football and beer...as a Grand Rapids native, I am proud of his service to the US. He visited his library at U of M, and I catered his lunch. The secret service made me leave, however, before the president arrived...I was bummed I didn't get to meet him, or even see him. Yes, he was a good president in the short amount of time he had. And he sacrificed the presidency in order to heal our nation. He will be missed

Ford was a good President in a difficult position. In Pardoning Nixon, he helped to bring the country back together and help restore faith in the Presidency, but he may also have sealed his political fate. He was always remembered for his integrity and his love for the country, but will never be thought of as a "great" president.

Yes

More presidents should follow his examples of peace and reconciliation.

Though the but* of many clumsy jokes Ford had a better understanding of healing a Nation than the Gaggle of Geese currently in Washington.

He was a great Statesman

President Gerald R. Ford was the last moderate (as in middle-of-the-road) president we had. I thought he might have lost to Jimmy Carter because America felt uncomfortable with a non-elected President. Oh, my heart political heart yearns for the "good old days"!

I have always liked President Ford. He lived a great life and I'm sure he has had no regrets. I also like that he always put this country first and held the office of President of the United States in high esteem. He showed true class. I wish all of our ex Presidents did.

Yes, it is tragic and saddening, when any person dies, but, Mr. Ford had lived a long life upon this beloved earth, amongst all his family and friends, and words of respect and honoring of the dead must be duly given to all that dies.

Mr. Ford, aka, ex-President of the US Ford, had left back one thought for me that sticks out like a sore thumb and which I will never forget.

That's the day when the Nixon appointed President Ford addressed the Nation, and said "America the long lived horror is over, and I feel that it is in the best interest of the country, that I may serve you well as your leader in making my decision, in pardoning our US (resigned) President Richard Nixon from any criminal wrongdoings and felonious acts (perjury), in His (President Nixon's) participation, of the "Watergate scandal and cover ups" an act forgiveness that was malious in the balance of justice eyes, which helped to continually stain the moral frabic of our elected officials, then and now.

Never to be forgotten, that this shameful decision, was followed with the infamous "walk of shame", from Richard Nixon as he departed from office and power of the US of A, as our elected leader and commander in chief.

Fords, short lived presidential popularity drastically dropped, and he never recovered with the majority of Americans in the US. Sad, but true, that this "thought" most definitely sticks out in any Americans mind today as we mourn his death as a Nation. It would be totally outrageous to leave out a big moment in US history.....I'll won't be ashamed to admit it first, in this Y!A forum.

As a Michigan Wolverine alumnus, I feel proud of my fellow alumni's life and I celebrate it. Gerald Ford was above all a decent human being, something we should all aspire to, and his life will be remembered and honored and respected by America.
