My budget is around £400, i have seen a fender jazz bass for £380 and have played it and like the way it feels sounds and looks should i get it?

Fenders are good, but you may wanna try a few Yamahas and maybe even Ibanez models first. For that much money, you could even check out entry-level basses by "uptown" bass companies like Warwick or Lakland - particularly the latter have a smokin' AWESOME bass around $600 (through online stores - check out musiciansfriend.com and then see if you can find a similar deal over there). Also, Music Man/Ernie Ball have a great entry-level model, but I dislike it because it's a one-tone bass, like all their models - just one pickup.

If you like the way it sounds and looks, why are you asking? Get the bass that fits you. If its a fender- don't worry about it.

thats a very trustworthy, great sounding, excellent feeling instrument,, you wont be disappointed,, tho before you buy that one you might wanna check out Fender's P-Bass also

Go light weight with a 5 sting (on-board 9 volt pre amp) If your going to be playing on stage.Fenders and Yamaha's are nice also
