NO, if you say the wrong thing you can be put in jail for slander. Even worse, if you say the wrong thing, Yahoo will kick you out!!
Case and point: OU812 just insinuated that I was ignorant. That is his/her choice of free speech,, Should I be offended? NO!! Yahoo is not covered by the free speech amendment, "there go's FREE SPEECH" I am saying if we are to have FREE SPEECH, There should be NO limitations on it. Say whats on your mind!!

Aside from the laws prohibiting things such as slander, we SHOULD have free speech.

Honestly though, we have lost that in to a nation that has become more and more politically correct every day. You can still say what you want, but depending on who you are and what people already think of you, you can be quickly scrutinized for mere words.

Take for example how many words have been changed to incorporate "person" instead of "man". Around here atleast, you can't say "Mailman" without someone correcting you and saying "Mail Person". Now, in this day and age, who is seriously that picky that they would assume I literally meant the person delivering the mail was a man? Obviously it wasn't insinuated, so why make a point to correct it?

There are many comedians who say things that so many people take offense to, for example Carlos Mencia. We've become so protective of what you can and can't say in a country based on the freedom of speech. Yet, if the people who point their finger at someone like Mencia would actually hear WHY he makes comments like he does, they would see that (generally) what he says is true, and he is making a point about that exact matter.

I just think everyone forgot what they were told growing up... "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me". LOL Its something everyone knew as a child, so why do so many people take offense to the tiniest things nowadays?

Absolutely, as long as you are in a free speech zone or you don't mind having the secret service kick down your door.

All descenders must be corralled well away from the president at all times in the "free speech zone" because as every one knows, anyone that would try to hurt the pres would never pose as a supporter.

According to the constitution the entire US is a free speech zone, but according to our pres, the constitution is just a stupid piece of paper.

To a certain extent,we as US citizens do have Free Speech.By to a certain extent,I mean as long as what we say does not offend anyone who happens to hear it at the time.We as US citizens do take for granted Free Speech and tend to abuse every chance that we get.

Absolutely!

We are constitutionally and, in practice, completely free to openly or privately challenge our government's policies and practices.

What I don't like is that this specific protection is used incorrectly to cover hate speech, racial speech, but that's just me.

After reading some of the answers, e.g., D.C.'s, it is apparent that many people are ignorant of what constitutionally protected free speech is. YA answers, e.g., are not protected under the free speech amendment.

You do have free speech, it is part of the first amendment. However, it is limited; you cannot say anything that will cause other people to do something violent. For example, you can't say "Everybody kill (name)!" because it might cause a person to actually kill the person you were talking about.

We most certainly do. We have the right to free speech, but remember all rights have restrictions. I think more people need to respect our right to free speech and quit abusing their right to free speech. We can thank our Military Forces for all of our rights, for without them, we could have been defeated in any of many wars, and our freedoms would have been lost. God Bless the United States of America, our President and all of our Military Personell stationed around the World.

In theory yes. In actuality there are limits. The limits have been set by courts to date. Or say if you are in school or a Yahoo forum then those institutions were the speech takes place can set their own limits. But if you feel strongly about what you want to say and think the constitution protects you then you can agrue in the supreme court to set the limits.

You should not ask such a question when you very well know that America enjoys a democratic life and free speech is a major part of it.

Yes, but it is also tempered by common sense. Free speech does not mean you can slander or use fighting words etc.
