If I had listened to my heart, which always loved English class (reading, writing) the best, then I would not have majored in biology, done miscellaneous, random things after college, and to some degree continue to do, and would have gone straight to being a writer or some other similar thing. I would have not wasted a lot of time.

So, I resisted the influence, I denied the obvious from my favorite subject in school, and regret it.

Please tell your nephew NOT to make the same mistake!

My favourites we always English and Mathematics... not so much for the subject matter, but rather for the teachers that taught the subject. They challenged me to think, question, and raised my confidence in myself. I'm a teacher, so I guess you could say that there is a definite link! Best wishes!
