Is discoloration on or around the penis normal? My fiance has two spots that are relatively small but kind brownish purple that are really worrying him. I don't think he has anything to worry about but he's really concerned. Who would he go see about something like that? (He doesn't have health coverage)

It's not gowing or anything, doesn't itch or hurt.

You are discovering one of the great truths about men--they don't like to go to the doctor, especially when it comes to having their penises examined. Not having health insurance makes the matter worse.

I'm not an MD, and I think even an MD would hesitate to make a diagnosis based on the information you have given. Some other questions might be: How long have those spots been there? Are they changing in color/size/shape? Do they hurt, itch/etc?

You obviously care about your fiancé, so make him an appointment with a doctor. Ask him to do it for you. It will be expensive but worth it in terms of mental peace.

Look in the phone book under social services--there might be a clinic where a doctor/nurse/physician's assistant is available for a low fee--but GO!

It's difficult to determine without seeing exactly what they look like, but my guess is they are simply birth marks or "nevi". There are several types of birth marks in shape and color. Strawberry hemangiomas, Salmon Patches, Port-wine stains, Pigmented nevi and Café-au-Lait spots. The names derived from the color of the mark. As you can see, a Strawberry hemangionms is red in color and mostly clumpy of red blood vessels. The purple you describe would be the Port wine stain made up of dilated capillary-like vessels. They are purple-red in color, usually flat or slightly raised, and do not disappear with time.

The bottom line is; they cause no problems except cosmetic annoyance. Some people who don't like them can cover them with makeup or articles of clothing. In your fiance's case, it's already hidden.

I would check www.webmd.com they give good suggestions. Otherwise, if it continues to grow or doesn't go away, I would schedule an appointment with a local doctor to have it checked out. Wouldn't want that falling off before the honeymoon.

~I don't have VD, but that's what it sounds like. Anything abnormal in that area would concern me too.

The fact that he is more concerned than you makes me think he may have been unfaithful to you? I hope you've been using condoms.

There are free clinics, check the phone book.
Good luck~
