the top-it's easier to pull...or wait a minute, the bottom ...
i forgot, it's not a big deal
actually i'm used to the roll being loose upright- not hanging from a roller

From the top. You just have to give the roll a quick slap and the paper rolls out nicely.

It doesn't much matter to me. When I was growing up it was a surprise if the roll got changed at all. Not that there was not some within reach at all times.
And when living on my own it didn't matter to me. I used as it was put up.
Now that I live with my fiance I make it go over the top or he has a fit!
So I guess I have to say over the top cause that is what I have become accustomed too.

From the bottom, because i can hold the roll with my other fingers and break the toilet paper. I hate when you pull it and it keeps rolling.

It is supposed to roll of the top, like paper towels.

Good question. Oprah did a show on this. Top is fine. Especially if the holder is far away, but if's right next you, bottom is better.

the top makes it easier to grab from the toilet seat. That is, not having to reach under.

the top cause if it is hanging down it is less likely to touch the dirty bathroom floor than if it comes from the bottom (already closer to the floor)

its gotta come off the top....the paper hangs, that causes a easy tear point, when its hanging against the wall you have to rach back it sucks haha
