Gizmo is a cute name for any pet. But might I suggest something other than a dang hampster. Hampsters are not good pets. When they get preggo, they can have 16-18 babies, and it's really difficult to take care of that many.
If you are gonna go through the trouble to have a pet hampster, then go ahead and get a cat or dog. Hampsters require a cage, bedding(sawdust), food, a food bowl, water bottle, etc.. If you are gonna pay that much for pet supplies then get one that you can hold and cuddle, get one that you can have fun with

I usually name my hamsters after I take them home. I would sit and watch them play a bit, then name them according to their personality and disposition.
My husband, on the other hand, would just call them the first thing that came to his mind. Unfortunately, our hamsters only answer to my husband's impromptu names for them.

Errrmm.. What is a hammy? Do you have a pet canned ham? Did you decorate said canned ham with pineapples and maple sugar? BTW, you aren't going to actually "EAT" this ham are you?
