I also got one for christmas and am still trying to figure things out myself. I'm not sure if all of the songs I download can be played on it because it says it doesn't play protected files. Check out this question:

its illegal to download music off of limewire. but i'm still trying to figure out the answer to your question myself

you either have to buy your music off sites like hmv etc, you can put on music off your cds or download lime wire
