I just want to set one thing straight: the French did NOT invent French fries!
French-fried potatoes -- "frites" -- were invented/created in BELGIUM. People still come south from the Netherlands and north from France into Belgium to get a paper cone of frites with a variety of sauces. (Mayonnaise is more popular than ketchup!)
