The previous responses you got are an example of the Halo Effect. This is the supposition that because one school is at the top in one thing, it should be at the top of another. Harvard is certainly the best university in the US. However, Yale is almost always ranked above Harvard for law.

In the UK, law is an undergraduate degree. While it is cartain that Oxford and Cambridge have the best UK law schools, it is difficult to compare the quality of an undergraduate law degree with a graduate law degree.

Law is such a specific topic that you ought to study in the country where you plan to practice.

I think the answer comes from the first schools you think of. Quality of law school (and much higher education in general) is very reputation-based, for better or worse. So from an American perspective, Harvard Law comes to mind quickest. However, there are many many HIGH HIGH quality institutions out there that don't have that name recognition that Harvard has but will probably offer you no less education. Just my 2 cents.

Probably Havard's with Yale, Princeton, Cambridge, and Oxford rounding out the top five. The top State's school is probably Michigan and non-Ivy League American Law school would be NYU's because of TV show's like Law and Order (Columbia also getting notice because of that show).

Good Luck!!!
