Personally speaking. I would. I say that because I learned over the years not to become friendly with anyone I work with. Reason being, I was screwed over many of times by co-workers who I through were my friends. They were only out for number one and stepped all over me on the way up and on the way down.
So, yeah I would do it.

But in your case, you have to consider a few things.
Is this person someone you talk to on a daily bases?
Are you friendly during work and after work?
How would this person feel?
How would you feel?
How would your co-workers feel?
Are you going to be the boss? You co-workers may not respect you after words?
Is there another way to get the promotion?
Did you’re boss tell you if you rat on the co-work you will get a promotion? If so stay out of it.
How much money! Money talks bud!

We can only give you suggestion. In the end you are the only one who can make the decision. Depending on the situation. Talk to the co-worker??

Good Luck!

No, but....

If the person in question was a two-faced backstabber and/or I was 'backstabbed', then I would in a minute because of the old "eye-for'an eye' rule. If I was in the position where I'd have to stab a good, honest co-worker for a promotion, then I'd tell 'em where and how deep they can stick the promotion.

Yes, I think that I would because everyone else stabs people in the back at work places. You aren't going to get anywhere in ANY company by being the nice guy anymore, you can either be a complete *** kisser or a crazy backstabber, take your pick.

No, I'm not interested in gaining from someone else's loss. Even if "that's the way everybody does it," that's not the way I do it. I'm happy where I am. If I get a promotion, that's great, but I'm happy without it, so I don't need to do the wrong thing to get ahead.

No. The promotion has to be earned by your merits not by the pain of someone else.

That some snitch way to do it. Never. How can people live with themselves doing things like that?

No!! But I think that being blind and naive at the workplace is not good either.

Never. I just could not live with myself if I ever did that.
