Why do they come. They should stay in their country if they hate it so much. One stupid comment i got was one girl that said "I wanna go back to my country, it's so nice", "American food is so greasy".. Oh that was stupid cause greasy american food is in restaurants. But if you cook , it's not gonna be greasy. it depends on you. Well whatever, so these people keep complaining, are they being forced to come here?

1. How many Japanese are "some Japanese" by your definition?
2. Why do you think one girl's opinion represents the opinions of the Japanese? She does not sound intelligent enough.
3. You cannot accuse Japanese based on your limited encounter with them.
4. Why don't you talk to the girl and explain American food instead of asking this "question" here?

Any new place takes time to get used to; I imagine a Japanese who is used to eating their own native cuisine (easily obtainable in a place like Kyoto but not so easily obtainable in Houston, Texas) would have some pretty severe gastrointestinal reactions to the McDonald's fare. They would be limited in their choices if they were just visiting (no access to their own kitchens, supplies, etc.), but if they moved here, certainly they could cook what they like at home (if they have the time!)

To tell someone they ought to go back home if they don't like the food is extreme, however. There are other aspects to consider. If they have been sent here for work (as in the local Japanese in Huntsville, Alabama who work in the Toyota plant there), then there is not much choice short of refusing the assignment from the company, and that does not sound like the Japanese way to me.

If they look really hard, they'll find something for everyone in America; it is truly a melting pot, and I wouldn't exclude them for simply not having found their niche yet.

Lots of people come to the USA cause so far is the easiest place to survive, I am mexican and unfortuately my country cannot supply the needs to a huge percentage of our population. This people have no voice and no jobs, they work like slaves yet they cant survive. It hurts to leave your country behind and all you are attached to. It is what here they call cultural shock.
I am here in the USA and I appreciate this country yet it hurts not to be close to the place I belong to.

This question makes me feel sad ... and it reminds me of another question which also made me feel sad, but that was from an American who couldn't cope with Japanese food!

In my opinion, it's what you might call home-sickness. Even people who WANT to go to another country are subject to it - I got it too, even though I was happy to come to Japan! Things ARE different in other countries, and we're all used to the way things are in OUR country! The girl you spoke to, when she said "I wanna go back to my country, it's so nice" was NOT saying that America is NOT nice - she was saying that she's homesick, and misses Japan..!! When she said "American food is so greasy", she probably didn't realise that her stomach problems were more due to homesickness than fried food! The man in my link, there's no WAY he was actually allergic to everything here in Japan, but he was SO homesick, and SO upset, that he DID have severe problems - the fact that he was sent here for work was unfortunate ... it made it easier for him to give himself up to his misery, because he had the excuse that it wasn't his CHOICE to move! If he'd moved here through choice, maybe he would still have run home at the first opportunity, but maybe he would have been able to get the right frame of mind to settle his stomach!

It's all down to your frame of mind ... just like sea-sickness. If you go on a boat with doubts you are guaranteed to be sick. If you go on the boat without doubts, you still might get sick. Once you ARE sick, you have to stay on that boat for months to beat it and get your 'sea-legs' - but if you went on the boat with doubts, you won't be happy about staying around until things settle down, so you'll never get those sea-legs because your attitude will be wrong!

With homesickness, if you go to another country with doubts you are guaranteed to be homesick. If you go to the country without doubts, you still might get homesick. Once you ARE homesick, you have to stay there for months to beat it and get used to the new country - but if you went there with doubts, you won't be happy about staying around until things settle down, so you'll never get used to the new country because your attitude will be wrong!

It's very sad that people's life experiences are being ruined by a bit of homesickness, but I'm surprised that you're not more understanding - can't you even IMAGINE the culture shock of moving from East to West (or vice-versa)? Everything is different - people, language, food, weather, scenery, attitudes, even the Coca Cola is slightly different! Just try to imagine how hard it is, suddenly having to communicate ONLY in a language at which you are not really very good ...! The headaches that would cause! Is it REALLY so surprising that people get homesick? BTW, quite a bit of Japanese food is fairly greasy too! But if you're feeling settled it won't affect you.
