you have to connect one sata drive to the master (sata1) and the other to the slave (sata 3) in order for them to be configured seperately. If you have them both connected to the master ports (sata 1 and 2) the BIOS will see it as a raid array
Also go to the advanced settings tab in the bios and look for your host controller. It should be set to IDE mode instead of RAID mode. Also on the main menu you might see IDE configuration. Open that and make sure it is set to configure using Standard IDE mode. Hit F10 to save and exit.

I have not changed or added a drive on my PC in a few years, but I remember that there used to be a couple of pins on most hard disks that were covered with a tiny connector. The connector was used to make the drive the master or slave in a two-drive system. If both drives were claiming they were a master drive, the PC's bios or cmos would only see one drive, not both in those cases.
You can read the documentation that came with the drive, or look on the label and see if these DIP switches or tiny connectors might be affecting the drive being seen on the system.
(By the way, if you plan on testing this out and removing the little "dongle", just write down what pins it was connecting in case the change you make doesnt work so you can put it back...)

May be your motherboard sata controller is unable to recognize 2 sata drives simultaneously? try interchanging and connecting it to the other sata slot.
