No. Law also requires a nurse be present.

Hello,
It is NOT normal and I have to disagree with some here that have answered your question. The reason it isn't normal hun is because in the past there has been many lawsuits brought against doctors for misconduct in ways of sexual touching etc.
Most doctors require that a female nurse be present when examining their patient. And also the husband is allowed to stay they suggest that he do. This is a "we"thing and the offices like to see the father included in on all visits.
The next time that this occurs I suggest that you inform your doctor (obgyn) that you prefer your husband to stay in the room with you.
That should have never happened ma'am never!
Good luck and congratulations on the baby!

it should be the wife's decision whether the hubby stays of steps out, perhaps the doctor was just doing that so the wife would not have to be uncomfortable asking him to leave. If the doc does not allow the husband to be present when the wife wants him there, its time to find a new doctor

Nope instead he should be asking the husband to stay.. this days Doctors encourage the daddies to stay as much envolved in the pregnancy as they can.. unless he is a old fashion doctor.
But the husband definatly has all the rights to stay even trough an exam. So the only way to fix that is just to comunicate with the doctor he shouldn't have no problems with that.

This should really be left up to the expectant mother. If she is comfortable with her husband being in the room, then he should be allowed to stay. If she is not comfortable with her husband in the room, he should step out for a few minutes. My husband was in the room with me during all my OB appointments, and I was fine with that. Some men may find it very weird watching another man (even if he is a Dr.) examining his wife. If the Mom-to-be is okay with it, and the Dr. still says no, maybe you need to find another Dr.

Hell no its not! I have had 4 children, and miss-carried one. At all of my appointments, my husband was present. They NEVER asked for him to leave the room, and they still brought a nurse in. Even when I was seeing a female doc. That is not right, and something is wrong with that doc. I would switch docs and report them IMMEDIATELY. Before something bad happens if they are going to do the exam alone.

Not usually. My husband came to all my appointments when I was pregnant and they never asked him to leave the room. However, when I was admitted to the hospital to deliver my baby, they did ask my husband to leave the room to ask me some questions. The reasoning for this was so that, if for some reason, my husband was abusing me, I would feel comfortable telling the nurse the truth because he wasn't there and it was confidential.
I think that's the only time a husband would be asked to leave the room.

If they asked my husband to leave I would not allow the doctor to examine me. Especially if there is no other female in the room...my husband has a right to know about his unborn child, and it makes me more comfortable knowing he is there to protect me...although I know in other countries the husband is not allowed for certain things, like in Germany the husband is not allowed in the room for an ultrasound, although I don't know if that is simply a space restraint or other reason.

Seems odd, considering the doctor normally won't examine a woman without a nurse present.

Depends on the situation. One time the doctor asked my husband to leave the room. Most of the time he didn't though.
