his time to rethink committing to Iraq? I realize what's done is done, but when you look at the past 3 years in Iraq, no progress has been made. And at what cost? almost 3000 american military dead, 600,000 Iraqis dead, countless others injured, Billions of dollars lost, etc etc

No progress had been made? I'm sorry you don't have the real story. In fact, if you listen to what people outside the hard left media are saying (particularly the troops and the Iraqis themselves) then you find a plethora of good. We have taken a broken country and transformed it into a much better place; All one hears about with the slanted media is how there is civil war, the US is an international bully, let's talk to Iran, etc.

Since day one after Shock and Awe, 85% of the country has been secure. Sure, that particular intellegence of justification was incorrect (although not its content), but does that mean Bush lied. This is silly and narrowminded. George Tenet was the head of CIA when we first got the intel (Apppointed by Clinton, who proclaimed existence of WMDs many times), who in turn got if from Great Brittain, who in turn...etc.

I saw an interview with some troops on Christmas; they were pleading to the American people to not give up faith, and how they were personally upset by the one-sidedness of big media. Let's ignore the rebuilt schools, increased religious freedom, sewage / water / electricity systems, economic infrastucture, small buisiness grants, IRRF grants and loans; people have better incomes than before and many (when interviewed) will say so. Ouside Bagdad or the Anbar Province, Iraq is essentially peaceful.

If we left, even far-left politicians agree that it would foster "regional turmoil". I think we have all heard why we cannot simply pull out, and only a handful of simple minded democrats want immediate pullout (or people like John Kerry, who let whims of public opinion dictate his values to him)

Others are answering you very nicely here, so I'll take the opportunity to respond to a comment you directed to me elsewhere.

You suggest my logic says we should topple the dictatorships of China and North Korea. Are you suggesting we should do the impossible? Are you so meek that you think we can't fix the situation in Iraq? Or are you spoiled by "fast" wars. Please get a backbone.

his committing to Iraq took Congressional approval, idiot.
and what price freedom? or as you would so ignorantly state:"and at what cost?" just ask ANY person in our volunteer military what is the cost of freedom!! you have tunnel vision and must see the efforts being made in a vision to the future.the stability and prosperity of the entire globe depends on it.
please,your self-righteous,pompous,know-it-all attitude is,in fact,what is really sad.
