Depends on the type of laptop. As it is new, could you ask the supplier ?
Good luck

yes and no !
your computer may be set with a region default.all you have to do is ask around your Friends for a region changer or look out for one on magazine disks they come up all the time.you can change this your self in windows but if it is a new computer don't play with the settings yet.
some of your answers will tell you to download but unless you have a full anti virus loaded AND SET UP you may down load more than you expect.
take care and happy computing

It will play any region up to 5 times and then lock itself to that region. You can get a patch for the CD/DVD drive to change the firmware so that it is region free. just search for firmware + drive model number in yahoo etc and you will find it.

The patch will however invalidate your warranty.

if you have purchased the laptop in the uk then your dvd drive will initially be unlocked but after a few swaps of region it will lock to a specific region.

there are numerous region hacking resources out there which will allow you to extend the ability to swap between discs of different regions but be warned i think they will void the warranty on the drive.

Somewhere in the manual it should tell you what region it will play. The newer ones will play just about anything, but you need to look it up.

you need to download "anydvd" from "slysoft". it automatically runs in the background and removes region encryptions/codes, and then you don`t have to worry what region dvd`s are
