I make all my own birthday cards in photoshop, using all my own photographs. I try to use a photograph that is personal to the person I am sending it to. They are always delighted.
If you have photoshop skills, even a little knowledge, you will be able to work out how to do this.
I set up a template using an A4 background. I then created a rectangle at the bottom of my A4. This gives me the outline border for my photograph. I choose my image, and then 'Paste into' the rectangle.
I can also type a message ie. Happy Anniversay etc. on the front of the card.
When I am happy with the front, I then set up another A4, and type the message for the inside on to that.
Give it a try, your friends and family will be delighted that you have taken the trouble to do something personal for them.

If you put in an image search for the theme you want to use eg. Christmas, you can print your own pictures to use on cards, you will need to buy card stock and envelopes but these are available almost every where these days. Have a look at some of the paper-craft magazines they usually give free stuff to get you started. If you become a member on the docraft site they send you ideas and free competitions. Happy Crafting!

There are loads of on line shops were you can buy materials (including kits) and quite often give you tips and ideas. I have signed up to the newsletter on mad about cards (see link below) and it contains ideas and gives offers sometimes. This site is good for materials but some things can be found cheaper in other places such as pound shops. I also 'steal' ideas from handmade cards in shops.
To make cards for free can be easily done by using materials from around the house such as old cards, wrapping paper, brown paper, flowers (press them in a book), leaves, gift bows, ribbons, photographs, magazines etc - you just need to be imaginative and use what you have to create lovely cards.
I have found that people love the personal touch even if they are simply drawn. - I hope you have fun

There are lots of cheap ways to make cards. Save all used cards and cut them up to make new cards, adding your own personal touch.
You will have to invest in card, glue, envelopes and any decorations you might need.
Hope this is some help. Making your own cards adds a very personal touch.

I presume you mean to produce on the pc rather than sites to give you ideas on handcrafting.....if you have no specific software you can make simple quarterfold cards by using word or a similar word processing package, divide the page into 4 and use the bottom left corner to put your wording etc, pictures can be taken from either your clip art folder or by doing a simple google image search. Depending on how your printer is set up you could also produce the inside of the card but would have to rotate the words and images.......the best idea is to fold a practice piece of paper with wording inside and out drawn on, then unfold and reproduce the same idea to the page.........hope this isnt too confusing for you............the last idea is to look in charity shops or on freecycle for those free cds that come with pc mags, many have simple graphics software on them...........Good luck

if u ever go to Wal Mart or Michael's craft store, check out a section in Stickers called "Jolee's stickers" or something..she has the CUTEST things u can just stick onto card paper, and it looks awesome. for example, if ur friend is a baseball fanatic, u can surely find a pack w/ a real or paper glove, complete with ball, and a baseball bat, grass, and a uniform. u can stick em onto a blue paper, and make ur own card! they look really professional too!! good luck~

My friend does this she also does scrapbooking.
You can pick up scrapbooking packs in most shops such as Tesco Woolworths etc
You can probably use that stuff to do your cards. Photos you've taken are also a nice touch.
