Well, I'm 14, so obviously mine is still quite irregular and whatever, etc..Sometimes it's really light, other times it's really heavy. When it's really heavy and I have horrible cramps, I take ibprofen, this seems to help A LOT, but what else can I do? (I know stay away from caffine, but anything else I should stay away from?) And I have this craving for milk just a few days before and after my period, but not during. Is this normal? What are some ways I can control my irritability during my periods? Like, as far as my personality goes I become very crabby, etc..I try to manage my emotion the best I can, but any tips on this? Thanks,! :)

Try a heating pad to help with the cramps. The heat will help the muscles relax.

As for mood swings, your hormones are changing so they occur in many women. Not much you can to do stop them, but try to be aware that any mood swing during that time is likely due to your period and may have nothing to do with events/emotions occuring in your life.

To be totally honest, you should go to your gynocologist and ask her about putting you on a weak form of birth control. I had the same problems until my gynocologist recommended this to me.

Being on birth control has many benefits, such as regulating your hormones and making your periods regular and lighter. Also an added bonus, if you do decide to be sexually active at any point you'll already be protected from pregnancy. Remember that birth control doesn't protect from sexually transmitted diseases so you should still always use protection.

"Birth control pills... known as "The Pill," are a type of contraception in the form of small tablets that you swallow each day. Most pills contain two type of synthetic (man-made) female hormones, progestin and estrogen, and are called the "combination oral contraceptive". The hormones estrogen and progesterone are normally produced by the ovaries. There are many different types of the combination oral contraceptives. The estrogen and progestin prevent pregnancy by suppressing your pituitary gland, which stops the development and release of the egg in the ovary, called ovulation. The progestin also helps to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg and changes the lining of the uterus. " This information was taken from

Try taking Midol (I suggest the 24 hr) this should help with the cramps. If you just started your menstraul cycles then irregularites will be normal, if not the you may want to check with your physician because it may be a sign of a bigger issue. As for the mood swings, unfortunately the only thing that I can suggest is St Johns Wort (is an herbal remedy), is some people it will help control mood swings but its not for everyone.

Take some Pamprin. That helps with a lot of symptoms. For the cramps, get a heating pad. The muscles in your uterus are contracting, so the heat will calm them. And everyone has differnt cravings/symptoms before they start their period. I get tired. And as for the irritability, smile and think how annoying it is when other girls are crabby and how you don't want to be like them.

your craving for milk is very typical. eatting or drink calcium before your period will help with everything you are suffering from. Also, try taking ibprofen a couple of days before your period. What helps me most is to sit in a really hot bath, it helps with cramps. hope this helps

Exercise helps sometimes, especially yoga stretches, with the cramps and the 'tude, especially if you don't want to take medicine I've taken Midol and it seems to work really well. Talk to your doctor next time you see him/her and ask for more suggestions. My friend started the pill when she was your age because it helped regulate her hormones, and helped with the feelings. It also helped clear up her skin. But all in all, you'll adjust as you get older and out of this time of change.

Just try to forget about it. Why should you have to stay away from certain foods you like? It's like with braces. They tell you not to eat gum and stuff, but you eat it anyway cause you like it. So why should something stupid like that keep you from eating things you like? And as for that milk craving, ignore it. Everyone knows milk makes you fat like a cow.
