best way
never connect to the outside world, never allow any disk that has been on another computer into your computer
OR
turn off the powerr, encase it in concrete and never ever use it.

asisde from that get a good antivirus program, use a firewall.

dont allow you eamil client to open emailsl in HTML format... only allow text emails.

keep the OS uptodat using the manufactuers patches

dont get succoured in by scam emails or follow links in emails you dont know. Never open Emails or attachemnts from people you dont know or are not expecting to receive.

never ever open executable programs (EXE, PIF, ZIP or wahtever), never ever download programs from non reputable sources.. its probably fine form places like Microsoft or reputable software vendors but never ever from a WAREZ type site (where they may have lots of software availabel from differnet manufacturers). That means anybody sellign something cheap which they dont have a legitimate cause to sell, dont load software that comes on a CD if the CD isnt legit.

dont visit dodgy sites

so the keys things are
uptodate antivirus
uptodate OS
keep firewall switched on
...
and perhaps most important of all discipline not to visit sites, not to download activex ro java controls, not to open emails or email attachments from people you are not exepcting to hear from

Good anti virus ,Plus anti spyware ,Like spybot and Ad-aware,
And keep your PC clean with Ccleaner,
You should be able to have years of trouble free surfing if you use these.
I would also download and install Hosts file ,This is a file of over 11000, websites known for bad behaviour ,The hosts file will stop your computer from inadvertently going into one of these sites .
I have all this and have Never had any problems.

Good antivirus that runs constantly, .....spyware/adware killer...regular updates if needed.
Keep the comp clean of rubbish...get rid of all temporary files and junk that will clog it up.
