Are there enough of wolves and cougars left to encounter each other?

Yes, it can and does happen.

A mountain lion is not natural prey for a wolf pack but in desperate times or when a mountain lion is sick or hurt ... also if a mountain lion comes too close or finds itself cornered, it can happen but is not a common thing at all.

There are enough to encounter each other. I would imagine if the mountain lion was injured...but they have the ability to climb and get away much easier then a wolf pack could follow. It really doesn't seem like something that would happen.

Of course that is just my opinion.

wolfs are always in packs and it would depend on the mountain lions health
