I have always had a subconcious fear of zombies since I watched Dawn of the Dead at age 4. Througohut my life, but more intensely the last couple of years, I have had recurring dreams about zombies.
THe scenarios are different, but in essence, zombies are coming into an area that I am at and I keep running away. They don't outwardly attack me and they are the slow Romero type zombies.
The zombies are never people I know and very rarely do people get attacked. Often, there are family members in my dream as well and we are all running from them. They seem to be coming more frequently, can someone tell me what they mean so I can maybe get some sleep?

Well, you're definitely not alone because I have reoccurring zombie dreams also. The way I battled the flesh-eating hordes was to just embrace the dreams, then they slowly started to dissipate. At first I was confused why I was dreaming about zombies but once I really got into the zombie culture, I actually thought the zombie dreams were kind of funny. I was having vivid zombie dreams about 4-5 times a week, but now it's about 1-2 a month.
I suggest reading some zombie books, get into the zombie fad. Check out the author Max Brooks, he wrote "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z."
This doesn't have to be a bad thing, just embrace it - and I think that will definitely help you out.

uh boy... let's add some logic here, the big mistake is the fact that you watched that movie at a very very fragile age, the age where you still belived that santa clause the easter whatever really existed and as the human brain stores most information but never removes some of it it's normal that while asleep your brain reproduces random segments of information based ton zombies. No ofence to anyone but praying, or talking to zombies or whatever will NOT help you. when I was 5 years old I almost got ran over by a car because I ran into the street, the memory of my mom screaming for me to get back still remains in my head but I've never dreamt it.
NOW here's what you can actually try to do to resolve your problem:
- Try a hypnotism session from a professional, he will try to block out that memory so that after this you'll never know it happend (to those you you that belive that hypnotism is not real trust me it's very real because I've practiced it , it's neuorological programming and if dome by someone who actually knows what he's doing it's very safe)
- Have you ever tried lucid dreaming? It's not easy at all but with plenty of practice you can become self aware in your sleep that way being able to take control of everything that's happening around you, and it may also be a very good solution because this way your brain will know that you make your own dreams... their not real nor have any relevance in the real world.
- Ignore your problem, not sure if it's the best solution since I'm not using any reference to provide this answer except my knoledge but if you just stop thinking about it your brain will have no more material to randomly mix thus resulting in your dreams but just to be on the safe side try the first option, and maybe the second
Hope this helps

Sorry about this but this is not a answer. For some reason i go through a phase where i get about 1-3 zombie nightmares in a row. this is how it goes. so first i am in my dads house with my dad and one of my brothers.i have a pistol.what happens is zombies are everywhere. we run out hop the fence and start running. we run for miles with zobrake mbies not far behind us.(For some reason randomly i dont have the pistol anymore.)We finally reach a hill that is safe and has other survivers. then some how the zombies brake in. then we run to another safe spot we have to rent a room for some reason then when we enter. not long after the zombies brake in again. for some reason my brother and my dad isnt there anymore. the the zombies run after me. i run into a little wooden thing. a bit like a shed but way smaller. i keep pulling the doors so the zombies dont open it. then just before the door opens i wake up scared and my heart beating fast. lookely for me i hardley remember any of my dreams. im just glad that there is other people just like me.

Well, it is so obvious that movie effect got into your head. There are fear in your life that was projected by the movie. There is not much to say about your dream because most likely you dream because you watched the movie.
However, some people don't dream that even they watch that kind of movies. It is either they get used to it or that kind of images play no serious effect on them.
In your case, you are running away is showing some guilt conscience about it. Zombies play a guilty motivation in your part and you probably feel some guilt within you and that is why you can't sleep.
To fix the problem,
1. try to watch some comedies before you sleep from now on.
2. Stop watching too much tv
3. Pray
4. Concentrate on other stuff likes studies or work, get your mind busy with other stuff
5. Before you sleep, tell yourself you will have zombie dream, by suppressing your thought, they will not come. But this is only short term solution

Your brain is complaining about something.
It might want more stimulation like reading something new or watching something new. It might be trying to make a statement though like your too isolated from brand new fresh people to know what's out there or the people you see daily are too repeatitive or follow orders too mindlessly.
I suggest you watch Saun of the Dead (I don't think I spelt his name correctly). Try to interact with the Zombies,.. instead of wasteing your time running from something that's only takeing a step a minute. Play with the Zombies. Talk to the Zombies. Put make up on and tell them your their Zombie King. You could try to confront them and tell them they are actors in make up,.. but whenever I try to pull the " I know this is a Dream" thing my subconcious gets made at me and punishes me for trying to stomp on it and rush to the other half of my brain. Not like the Punishment is something painful... it's things like things turning to liquid and disappearing that most had my interest. Like, Oh The Horror... my Dream Candy Bar melted and disappeared into the floor *rolls eyes*.
Maybe start to learn,.. Zombies can't hurt you. Try meeting some people that have "died" like me. It puts your mind in a different place some times to have "died" or met someone that has "died". [Not meaning some Vampire Fantasy stuff. But People that have Drowned or be pronounced/decleared dead but were revived.] Us Zombies just want you Zombies to quit being mindless sheep and get a little creativity and original thoughts out. Most people are mindless sheep, or try to be. Mindless sheep is another form of Zombie if you think about it,.. so maybe that's going to have something to do with your Dreams.
Added: Greyspark--- This day and age it's been normal for a very long time to see such things as a child without this effect. I'm sure there are 30-somethings out there that saw horror movies as a child and were not effected for life in their dreams, I know the 20-somethings did. Doesn't Hypnosis only work on like .14-14% of the population. I think it's more like 4%, but I forget the exact number. It's so small... maybe it is less then 1 percent. Anyways, that makes it seem like a waste of money since the odds are slim.

I say enjoy it. My dreams are so dull and unexciting that being chased by zombies would be a relief. What you should really do is watch the remake of Dawn of the Dead, that way you could have some really scary zombies chasing you, instead of those slow ones.

Dreaming about the living dead may carry a powerful message. Dream usually means that you are emotionally disconnected from things going on around you. You may be experiencing unhealthy detachment and are unable to appropriately feel positive or negative emotions. Currently, you may be out of touch and outside of the main flow of life. This dream could positively sever you and help you to become aware of emotional issues and circumstances in daily life that are difficult to face.

You need to get out and get some real exercise and you will find out dreams are the movies and daily activities you engage in.
