As a professional Makeup Artist I would have to say MAC Face and Body. It's a sheer pigmented hypoalergenic foundation. It can also be used in the airbrush machines for absolutley flawless coverage with a natural look or with a sponge. Appy Fix+ spray afterwards to set it. I use this on famous or high end clients for film and photoshoots. MAC Studio Tech (Cream to Powder) is very popular amongst MAC Customers but it can sometimes cakeup on the skin. I always use the Face and Body on my Clients for all day natural, less touch up, looks. If you are going to use the Studio Tech then thin it out with some moisturizer.

The MAC Face and Body is A water-based, water-resistant foundation that provides long-lasting, natural coverage for face and/or body. Ideal for all skin types. Face and Body Foundation provides sheer, natural looking coverage in an easy to blend, water-resistant formula. The long-lasting formula is available in a wide range of colours and contains several emollients to help moisturize and condition the skin. It delivers professional looking results that meet the exacting standards of beauty photography and is ideal for perfecting the face and body.

Clinique tends to dry your skin out on women of color. So I don't recommend them at all.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

I am super oily. I found Revlon Colorstay for Combination to oily skin very beneficial. The key is that you have to wash off this foundation completely unless you would have acne. The foundation stays on for more than 16 hours and it looks freshly applied even after 16 hours. I love this foundation because once you put it on, you are all set for the whole day and you do not need to fuss about your makeup. Even the rest of your makeup, such as your eyeshadow or eyeliner, has a better chance to staying on for the whole 16 hours. That said, try to take off the foundation with Pond's Cold Cream and warm wash cloth. Then wash your face with Cetaphil. This way, your skin will remain flawless with or without the foundation.

Though I'm not african american, I did have similar problems with make up. I tried all the expensive brands, and then after graduating college and not having mommy and daddy to buy it for me I switched to store brands, and have been amazed at how much better my skin is. I use the Neutragena skin clearing foundation. It has just a small amount of acne fighting stuff in it, and it is oil free. My face is never oily anymore even at the end of a 9 hour work day, and my acne has all but disapeared (except once a month, but who can control that). I don't know how it will cover on dark skin, but I do know that dark colors are available. I have been very pleased with the coverage, it's very light but smooths you skins impurities. Best of luck, and Happy new Year to you!

I personally use Neutrogena SkinClearing oil-free foundation and it works for me. The dark shades are limited however. I would recommend Bare Minerals over anything though. It's oil-free and doesn't contain anything that would break out a person's skin. If you're willing to spend the money to buy MAC cosmetics, I'd go ahead and buy the Bare Minerals foundation. I too have oily skin, and I use MAC eyeshadows, lipcolors, etc. because they have interesting shades, but their foundations aren't oil-free and aren't really the best for someone with oily, acne-prone skin.

I do not have dark skin so that brings a dimension to your question I may not be able to answer exactly.

I will tell you that a few years ago I began wearing the Bare Essentials line.

It gives really good coverage and does not have all the strange chemicals in it you find in liquid foundations. I have heard many women say their skin improves when using it because they are not subjecting their skin to strange chemicals.

Because it is a powder you can make different color combinations for any day.

If you have a Bare Essentials store (they sell BE at ULTA and also on QVC) the store carries a line of skin care products call MD formulations which is very good for clearing up skin conditions.

hope this is helpful.

best,

cez

I really like L'Oreal True Match Blendable Powder. Its really light weight, the perfect match for all skin colors and won't make oily skin more oily. What i would also do is look into getting some Proactive, that stuff really really works! My pimples went away in 2-3 weeks. If you use a good cleanser, toner and then use the L'Oreal blendable powder you should be good. I hope this helps!

MAC isnt the best bc it tends to break people out Bobbi Brown, Make Up For Ever HD foundation, and Laura Mercier are a bit expensive but there definately great and have a wide selection of skin shades.

bare minerals is supposed to be the best, if you havent heard of it its a powder that you dip a brush into shake off the exess and swirl it onto your face and its supposed to cover blemishes and dark spots with a sheer powder! its also safe to sleep in cause its all natural and clears up ur face. also nutregea makes a liquid foundation which is a acne medication and it comes in different colors, it kinda stinks a lil bit though, good luck.

My Daughter has used both ofthese products with great sucess, first , yes the proactive is a good product to help w/ the acne issue, also using a cover base that is not reactive to sensitive skin such as bare minerals works very well too, they have a light and dark base to choose from. here is a link to a site that carries both, check the health and beauty page.
