When you say subsidized rent, there are a couple of possibilities. If the subsidy is sponsored BY the landlord, then typically you cannot just transfer that payment to another property, you would probably need to find another location that also offers a similar program, and see if you qualify. I'm not real familiar with that particular situation. However, if you are on Section 8(illinois) assisted housing, or an identical program under a different name, you have plenty of options. Once your lease is up, you can contact your caseworker, and ask for information on other landlords that accept that particular subsidy program.

In Texas, if you've been on section 8 for at least 2 years, have good credit, and work at least 30 hours per week - YES!!! you can qualify to use your section 8 money to buy a house!
