Should you make you computer do a virus scan every month? Every week? Or Every Day? More than Once a Day?

Every month is a bit long for virus scanning, but more than once a day is a bit paranoid. I'd say the best option would be to scan for viruses daily and update the antivirus every week to make sure you have the latest virus definitions. If you hear about a virus that is new and is spreading, it may be a good idea to update the virus at that point then scan.

I have mine set up to run a quick pass daily, at a time of day when I'm not likely to be using it (so it doesn't slow down whatever I'm doing). It should be running in the background as well during the day. Then once a week I have it do a deep scan. This has worked out well for me.

I play an online game . There's a lot of people trying to hack others systems in order to steal stuff in the game. I run 3 different scans for viruses/spywear daily. If one misses the hack attempt another might catch it. I make sure I run all 3 when I first start the computer to make sure nothing was added while I was playing. So far I've cought several attempts while many of my friends have lost their accounts to hackers.
It really depends on what your doing online as to how much security you need.

Schedule a scan once a day, during hours you're asleep. Schedule automatic updates and downloads of updates daily as well during your times of slumber.
