It's lite & looks "dated" if you watch it now, but it's a sappy classic! Take a touching father-son-like cross-cultural relationship, add fights, budding romance, quotables ("Wax on, wax off."), then-hip soundtrack, & the Big Competition at the end, & you've got yourself a winning movie formula, one the studios have been ripping off endlessly ever since Karate Kid.

You have to take into account that you said KARATE. The Martial Arts are made up of different styles and Karate is just one of them. Many great movies have been mentioned here but if you are looking solely for Karate films then you need to watch High Kick Girl, Karate Girl, Kill or Be Killed, Kill and Kill Again and the best of them all the Original Karate Kid movies. Those are karate. The first 4 films I mentioned actually have appearances by JKA Karate Masters. Also look for Karate: The Hand of Death. It is an old black and white movie. Horrible story but has footage from the JKA headquarters in Japan and features a few Japanese Masters. The Japanese style of empty hand. Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and all the rest of the great martial arts actors did not practice karate. Chuck Norris is the closes but it was a Korean Style which is a off shoot of Shotokan Karate. A really good story and is claimed to be karate but probably more Jeet Kun Do is The Sensei. Great movie by Diana Lee Inosanto. I hold a 4th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate and have practised other styles as well.
