I have really dark skin and any foundation I use is either too light ormakes me look dead. What should I try?

My suggestion is to go to one of the department store make up counters (like M.A.C. or Clinique or Fashion Fair) and have them do your make up. Make sure you know which brand and color they put on you. Then go to Ebay and buy it at a fraction of the cost.

For Ethnic skin (I am Trinidadian and am made up of many races, but am technically black) you usually have to use two foundations because the T-zone area is usually lighter than the cheeks, forehead and chin. That is the only way to obtain the most natural look.

Miss Confused, I understand your issue with this. Finding a good foundation is hard. There are some great ones at department stores. It doesn’t seem right either with certain complexions don’t have the colors needed either. I will suggest Prescriptions you can find this at nostrums or other departments stores, I know it’s pricey and unfair with any thing there honestly, but you can go in and they give you a 100% color match up from a trained beautician in front of you. Sometimes depending on the store they will give you a sample to take home. Sephora is also a sample store you can get samples of everything there as well. This way you have no doubt of finding the right shade, no pasty-ness or clown action going on.

Also some places like Walgreen’s are starting to carry a line for darker complexions as well of all kinds of skin care. I would get the samples and try them out and it might cost more and I know it’s not right but you might have to go to a counter. I like the brand Physicians formula, it has mineral wear line. I also know that bare essentials carry darker colors as well, there around 25 a pod, why I buy the physicians formula, but that improves the skins tone. Also Mary-Kay has some darker shades.

Try Mary Kay, they have a large selection of colors and formulas to choose from. There IS something that will work for any skin type or color. Try going to marykay.com and check out the web site. The brands that have the best shades for women of color are MAC, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, Iman, Clinique and Estee Lauder. These are the more expensive brands but worth the money.

Btw, Prescriptives does custom blending.

I hate to say it, but you should try the department stores. I know the Clinique counter was offering to do exact match to your skin tone where they blend the perfect color for you. It may be just what you need.

If the color is too light you can add moisturizer to it and it will lighten up, or you can just wear a sheer foundation

My friend always goes for covergirl or I think maxfactor. She says covergirl is the best, they have the most shades. You should try the mousse stuff, it gives good coverage.
