I think the tendency is to treat a living person as you see them...good and bad, strengths and weaknesses.

Once someone dies, we take a step back and look at their accomplishments over the totality of their life and what their contribution was to the world.

We do that with everyone, not just Presidents. As it turns out, most people actually made a positive contribution somewhere or to someone.

It's a nice practice I think, but sure it might be nicer if we could show our appreciation while they are still alive to receive it. There is a lesson in there somewhere.

What are they supposed to do? Minute-by-minute updates on a retiree? Ford was 93, so I don't imagine he was too active in his later days.

Plus, the media doesn't "CARE" about anything. They report. We all decide whether or not to care. A death is a noteworthy event to most. A death of a President even more so because his life is intertwined with our nation's history.

I don't think that's true.We all knew that Reagan was ill with Alzheimer's.Did you want a day by day report telling you what he forgot,or forgot to do.I think that people like that{in the public eye} have a right to some privacy.Just because a few of you want to know when he sh#* last.doesn't mean you need to know it.There are other things they could keep us informed of,that are more important than ill past presidents.

Let's face it, that holds true with everybody. People are all ******* until they die, then they are talked about in a whole different light. Presidents are just more well known. People rush to pay attention in an effort to achieve good karma, to make themselves feel like better people.

THEY DON'T CARE BEFORE OR AFTER - IT'S A JOB, VERY WELL PAYING AND THEY ARE DOING IT.
I CANNOT IMAGINE A JOB MORE BORING THAN THE REPETITIOUS B.S. THEY SPEW ALL DAY LONG.

because then it looks like they care so nobody will talk bad about them, so maybe they won't get into trouble.
