Oh I am so with you on this!!! For fear of appearing a miserable old so and so, I have moaned about the cards from EVERYONE whom I could quite easily have WISHED happy Christmas, invited them in for drinks even. People at work!!!
I have cut the present list in half, nearest and dearest and infants only beyond that. I cut my food bill in half this year, and I am still giving boxes of stuff away. I made it to the Christmas Eve Carol concert for the first time, wonderful. THAT'S what its really all about. I put the decorations up day before Christmas Eve, all but the door wreath is left until TWELFTH night, (just in case! lol)
We had a wonderfully quiet and honest Christmas this year, and I intend to make it even better next year! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I didn't get sick of the Christmas hype, I just didn't participate in it. Here in Mexico its quite a religious occasion, although the stores feature lots of trinkets made in China on themes and variations of the holiday. I've told my family don't get me anything I can't eat, drink or smoke, they comply happily. We seldom exchange gifts unless its something really important, we decorate the house with a tree made of dry weeds (spare that pine)---and do the yard with seeds and popcorn for the birds, make huge dinners and invite the neighbors. Across the border, the highways are jammed as are the malls, we stay away. Your idea is a good one.
