How do i implement php and ,javascript into project? etc.?

Hi everybody i am working on my university project which is to create a semantic search application using scripting. This will analyse words from website urls etc and compile data in a clever artisical form graph, colour 3d etc. as well as textual form since i am not big on scripting since i only really started learning it at university i don't know much! But i am very enthusiastic about it now you could say fanatical and willing to learn more. I spoke to my lecturer and he speaks alot of jargon! lol As he has a ma in the subject! But he advised me on a easy way to do this. I could have an open web window within my created application and use a simple peace of scripting maybe php/rss that starts from a particular url and scans through a a list of them and then returns back the data in any form i wish. i thought a good programme for this would be tiger osx a i could create the interface and then implement the scripting. Ido not have a mac at home at the moment so I am making use of my pc. Sorry to be a bother but do any of the gurus lol on php/javascript etc have any good ideas of peices of scripting to use or other simple pc applications i would be grateful for the littlest of help/genuine good advice! just to get started if possible we could talk on msn/yahoo messenger too i don't want any non helpful replies to this :)

Your problem is big....and without virtually doing the project for you i cant really help. ...

I recommend you check out w3schools.com for guides on php..

php will be your main system here. Javascript isnt powerful enough for what ure trying to do ...especially on a large scale.

Remeber to break down every step of what ure trying to do....as small as u can. A computer is stupid...if u dont tell it what to do exactly it wont be sure what u mean....

if u have troubles with a partiualr function in php then php.net has a function search with how to use that function etc...

one thing to consider if u do run ure script on a standard php server then u will have to set a timeout limit greater than the current.....well unless ure only going to be "crawling" a few sites..

....wow ure kinda making ure own google here hehe.

The courses for the two can artwork exterior and contained in the browser.
