I am in Arkansas I spent $8,000 on a wedding for 100 guests. Most of that was for food and liquor at the reception. The dance floor I rented (it was an outdoor wedding) was almost $700. The place we rented was $800ish. Flowers were $500. Food and drink was about $2500. Then, there was the dress, gifts for attendants, tuxes for my hubby, son, and dad. The two cakes were about $800. There were a bunch of other expenses too.......little things add up in a hurry.
I got divorced a year and half later, but we had one hell of a party!!!
Good luck and have fun!!!
There are books out there you can read on how to adjust your budget and such. You may want to go the library and see what you can find.

It just depends on what you want. We spent about $20K on our wedding. Set your budget then decide what things are most important to you---is it the honeymoon, the dress, the flowers, etc. That is where you should set aside more money. There are plenty of ways to save money too. For example, the lady that did our cake used Betty Crocker cake mix and professional icing. She did a decent sized cake for us to cut and then had sheet cakes in the back that were served to the guests as well. This saved money - plus people thought the cake was delicious!
Good luck with the planning - that is such a fun and stressful time!

My wedding cost: $00.00
Really.
My fiance and I went to the Carribean. We got married at an all inclusive club (Beaches) on Turks and Caicos.
The wedding: free
The cake: free
The flowers: free
The minister: free
The video: free
The pictures: free
It's the best deal going.
Just the two of us went and it was very romantic. Neither of us had to worry about keeping guests happy, etc.
Plus, as you've seen in your answers already, spending a lot of money doesn't guarantee that the marriage will work out.
Good luck!

It depends on how frugal you are. I had my wedding for less than $3,000. I made my own dress, but there are thousands of places that you can get an inexpensive dress. My sister-in-law got hers on e-bay.
I did a lot of my own cooking for the reception, and had a friend of mine from college who was a DJ. I found most of my bridesmaid's dresses the week after Christmas (so they were all on clearance).
We had a Christmas wedding, also, so that we could have poinsettas instead of flowers.
It's all about how you plan it!

Mine was abut $15,000 for the reception and $5,000 for the rehearsal dinner. When you take your dress and everything else...gifts for the wedding party, tuxes, etc....you're looking at about $25,000 for a decent wedding. This was for about 200 people.
A year and half later, we're getting divorced, so it was money not well spent!!!

well it kind of depends on where you live. I spent about $12,000 on my wedding ,and it was beatiful. we had 100 guests, and served a buffet line where people serve themselves, although the food was served on china not plastic. I think it depends on how many people your serving. Make a budget and stick to it. decide the top things that are imporant to you and make sure to shop around. not all places are in the phone book, look on the web and make sure you get refrences you dont want to get screwed on your wedding day. congrats!
