My boyfriend has a felony on his record (burglary) and he would like to get it sealed. He committed this crime back when he was 17 and has since learned his lesson and turned his life around. He will be receiving his associates in Biology in the Spring and will begin working on his bachelors in Biology in the Fall. His goal is to become a High School Biology teacher for intercity kids in Chicago. If he were to go through the process of getting a clemency, would he still be able to be a teacher? I think that getting a clemency prevents employers from seeing your record, but I'm not sure if that stops schools from seeing them. Does anyone know how long the process will take? Or if he really will even be able to get a job as a teacher? Thank you for any advice you can give!

It depends on the state, but usually, a clemency just lets you go free from any punishment. Doesn't erase a conviction and sometimes requires an admission of guilt.

I'd look for another way of expunging your b/f's record.
