According to Hinduism, everything is God. You might have heard about the story of Prahlada and Hiranyakasipu. The incarnation of Vishnu, Narasimha came out from a pillar. Therefore Hindus started worshiping pillar and post. If Christians can worship the holy cross which was used to kill Jesus, and Muslims can worship by throwing stones to the wall etc., let me ask, why can't Hindus worship as in your question? Sorry, I am an Atheist.
