Does anyone know how to get a divorce in Michigan and how to make it quick? We were only married for one month. We don't have any children (thank god), and we don't own anything together. I live with him in his condo.

Please help...I am so unhappy. :-(

I'm not in Michigan, but I want to commend you on your decision. I'm sure you are going through a difficult time, but it will be ok in the long run. I have been married for a year and a half now and we are finally getting a divorce even though the warnign signs were there from the start. We are both young with no kids as well, so I'll chalk it up as a learning experience. I wish you luck in finding happiness.

I'm sorry this happened to you. At least you were married for only a short time, and you are being very responsible to recognize that it is not working and moving on. My parents were married for 33 years, most of them unhappy, before they finally did the right thing. I would not listen to anything anyone on this suggests. You do not want arbitrary bad advice. The very best thing you can do is call an attorney. It really helps to have someone on your side. If you absolutely cannot afford to do this, then try reading some of these websites:

Good luck!

Since several people have mentioned annulment…short term marriage or ‘buyer’s remorse’ is not grounds for annulment in Michigan or any other state that I’m aware of. Unless you meet the grounds for annulment (ie the marriage was not legal to begin with, one party was mentally incompetent, etc) then you’ll have to get a divorce.

you are going to have to get a lawyer. but if it has only been a month, can't you get it annulled. that is usually quicker than a divorce.

there is some information on divorce in mich on this site:
http://courts.michigan.gov/scao/selfhelp/family/divorce.htm

i couldnt find much on here about annullments
