I use a carpet cleaner I found in the auto parts department of Wal-Mart. It comes in a red can and has the brush on top. I think it's called something like Spot Shot...anyways, it works great.
I also use 409 carpet cleaning foam. If the spots are hard I would use hard water and a stiff brush to loosen them up. Then soak it with a carpet cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with the brush until it comes out. It may take a couple treatments. That stuff in the red can I have not found anything that it won't take out.

Would you happen to know what the stain consist of? Food, wax, crayon....BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS SUGGESTION. for if your carpet is any type of synthetic it will not work, it melts the carpet. Place a paper towel or brown paper bag over the stain. Press lightly on the stain with a WARM iron, REPEAT WARM, not hot. The heat should melt the glue and the paper towel will asorb it.

If it's wax you could lay a paper towel on top of it and go over it witha warm iron, just keep moving the paper towel around til you have it all up. Just make your the iron isn't too hot so you don't melt your carpet and don't leave down for too long either.

I keep oxyclean on hand. I mix it in a small bowl and brush the stains with a tooth brush. Then I spray it with plain water to ditule the oxyclean just in case. And I just keep repeating it until it's gone.

But I think it's important to find out what it is and what kind of carpet you have just to make sure you don't make it worse.

Krud Cutter is what you need. You can buy it a Home Depot for sure. This stuff will clean anything. I don't like to endorse products but this is an amazing cleaner. Be carfull it works so good you are most likely to have a really clean stop after you are done.
