For typography manipulation it's probably good to use Adobe Illustrator. It's not a free software http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/

Freehand is it's macromedia version.

It's probably the best softwares for that usage.

The free trial of a similar software alternative could probably be found on http://www.eazydraw.com/

Though if you want to search for other alternatives look it up on downloads.com under keywords like layout or design.
