Your first question is who am I trying to reach? Secondly, how can I effectively reach them? If I'm selling Ford Crown Victorias the local newspaper ad would be an ideal spot for an ad. But the local paper wouldn't be a good spot if your selling a skate board to a 14 year old, right? Know those things first then design advertising - creative and media - that fits your target. The role of a celebrity endorsement is primarily credibility. Again know your target. Tommy Lee wouldn't be a good endorser for the Crown Victoria but perhaps a consumer of drums could be persuaded to select a product based on Lee's pitch. Good luck.

successful advertising is all in the way that the presentation is made. If it's catchy, It will stand out & be effective advertising. On the other hand, If it's dull, then it will be not well received. Having spokespeople or models on an ad is a definite plus, sometimes even those ads don't appeal to the consumers all that well. Try to keep it simple but catchy & appealing!

Of course it's effective in many industries. Sadly, in some industries, the advertising is so pervasive that one has to advertise heavily just to maintain market share.

I don't think that an actor or actress is nearly as effective as a reputable testimonial -- ie, "I bought to company" or "If you can find a better deal, buy it".
