You have to be very gentle with him and persevere. He will learn to trust you eventually. You have to keep trying every day. and your doing the right thing by offering him food and stroking him. Just be patient. Good luck

Guinea pig's are naturally very shy creatures. I've had mine nearly a year and they still get scared of me. I find that they become less scared if you put their cage in a place, or bend down, so that your Guinea Pig can only see your head. That way you don't seem as big and scary. Just keep trying and eventually he'll warm to you

That's less than a week. You really haven't had him all that long. It sounds like he's not quite used to you yet. You may need to give him more time. It may take several weeks for him to get acclimated to his new surroundings. Keep doing what you are doing, and eventually he'll let you pick him up. Don't try to force him though, it will only scare him. Let it be a gradual process.

He has to learn not to be scared of you. Bribe him with foods. His instincs tell him to run from the preditor, you and your hand. YOu just have to chase him and, if you cant bribe him and hold him. Feed him while you hold him to show him youre not an evil monster. The piggy should be taken out of the cage for proper cleaning...the pan of the cage should be rinsed with vinegar, which breakes up the calcium residue in piggys pea once a week. Just take the piggy out and put him in a safe confined space.

GOOOD LUCK

I have two guinea pigs, one has let me pick him up from day one, the other we still have issues with him running away (had them for 9 months) I sit by the cage and talk to them both and they usually come up and they will nibble on my finger, it just takes time and they need to trust you. Have you tried catching him and then holding him and feeding him? Once he knows you are not going to hurt him he should adjust to you. Give him time to get used to you and everything about your house.

WoW hold on. Leave him for a week or two. Then try and bond with him. Remember its like placing you in a new environment with people you don't know. You don't know if they will eat you or not. Let him get used to his surroundings. Then start hand feeding him. What I did with my chinchilla was i put treats in my hand and moved them up every day till he learned to sit in my hand.

Good Luck!

You need to give him lots of handling and get him used to you. You need to be firm but confident and gentle when handling them. I had my guinea pigs for seven and a half years. They were handled a lot- spent a lot of time running free in the garden under a big run. Had a nice, warm, clean hutch that was big enough for them to run about in. I fed them the right diet and gave them lots of extras such as fruit and vegetables. They always had clean, fresh water. They repaid me by recognising my voice and squeaking very loudly when I went near their hutch and cuddling up to me. I really missed them when they had gone.

i have had 7 guinea pigs over the years 3 now 1 of them hated being handled and it took 2 of us to catch him but when we did we gave him alot of affection and he now enjoys it he still runs occasionally but thats just in they're nature its nothing to do with you just keep trying handle him often he'll soon begin to like it and then you'll become great friends just make sure you dont drop him.

Guinea Pigs are quite shy they need lots of attention, you really haven't had him long yet so if you keep spending lots of time with him he should soon get used to you.

good luck
