Men are not superior, but neither are women. Each gender has strengths and weaknesses. Men are better at some things due to their physical strength, etc. Women are better at other things due to their nurturing natures, etc. Male and female psyches are different, neither better than the other. There are things women can do that men struggle with. There are things men can do that women struggle with. It's simply not a question of superiority.

Since this is the SOCIOLOGY section:

The sociologist would look at this question as stating something about culture. What your actually asking is why does society view men as being more superior. And the answer? Because that's simply how society has been structured to believe in America. It's a result of societies attitudes, beliefs, and conditions. It's not a matter of being right or wrong. And know that this isn't the case all over the world.

I really don't think we are, sure we are good at some things but there are also some things a man can't do or is not good at, here is where the woman comes in who is good at that and so what one can't do the other can and that make us complete.
I really don't think that men or women are superior to each other, I think that we are all in the same place with the same problems and that the only way to solve them is to work together.

Sociologically there are many answers:

1. because we say so or think so
2. if you look at the history of the social stratification of men and women, then neither gender is "superior". each gender has specialized talents based on societies needs. in the hunter/gather time frame men hunted BUT women had the children, cooked, gathered food (which was the main sustenance), sometimes hunted, and in many cultures are the carriers of linage. i.e. Cherokee Indians are are matrilocal, matrilinial, and matriarchal society.
3. read up on female rulers and leaders: Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Boudicca, Cleopatra, Empress Dowager Cixi, etc.
4. women make up 2/3 of the population but we are too busy fighting individual fights to focus
5. women brought about many political and social changes through out history all over the world - women have fought in disguise in the revolutionary and civil wars

I hope that this is a start to a new journey for you...

Who have you been listening to? Look, its true their is an "old boy's network" and that men seem to have a problem with women breaking the "glass ceiling" sometimes, but they're not superior, just wired differently. We're superior in some ways, they in others - just like you and I. A good saying I use is " Women have to do things twice as hard to be thought of half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult."

They appear to be superior in relation to the things you value most. If you valued, say, intuition more than logic, then you would believe otherwise. If you believed nurturing was more important than, say physical strength, then the same...Its just your perspective. Personally, I think we are more alike than different (humans) and that society has just evolved and led to specialization for the division of labor based on natural strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I'd have preferred to have a male position in this world, but since I wasn't born one, I embrace my own specialness as a feminine person. I think men have it better than women in most circumstances.

I don't consider myself a religious person, but the more I study scientific theory, the more the Bible makes sense. It doesn't say men are superior. But it does say some things that make a lot more sense than the way society works today.

It was interesting to note that not much has changed expect for the fact that most are now willing to give their answers to this question.

Man is only superior when you allow him to be.

I look at the answers and it's hilarious, all the women say no, while the men are fairly neutral on this. There's a point on the men's side right off the start at least.

I personally believe that both men and women have something to contribute, it's just the contribution of a male's special qualities are up front more since they involve mathematics and engineering skills, while women are typically more apt to communication skills.

They aren't and you know it.

There are many differences in the way men and women think, behave, react, feel, etc not to mention physical differences. This is true of all species and nature made it that way for survival reasons. But a difference is NOT an equality.
