I get really really energy-less before periods. I'm listless and sluggish and become a couch potatoe. My legs ache and my back hurts and I want to sleep the whole time. Should I take an energy tonic or something?

Take a warm bath and then stretch!! You will feel sleepy after this, so then you can take a cooler shower or go for a fast paced walk or run.

I use to get the same way before I realized that I was anemic. I even got pale! Get a blood test to determine if you are. If health insurance is a problem, donate blood (not when you are menstruating) and they check all blood for anemia. If you are, they will inform you that you did not make a suitable donor because of your condition. I take iron pills (over the counter) about a week before I start and that helps a great deal. Don't overcompensate. If you pump up with too many stimulants you may just feel worse. Try some of the PMS medicines. And take a healthy dose of vitamins. Increase your protein intake. Stay away from starch and too much sugar. Drink juice, especially cranberry.

See your doctor. She/he might be able to help you become less "sluggish" (lol). And also, drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep/rest. It might help even just a little. Good luck, hope this works!

I know me too! I drink extra water and take iron supplements and B vitamins. Excercising will help too, even though you don't feel like it.

your iron might be low, try eating something with lots of iron in it

watch your diet...try extra carbs one month...extra protein one month...see what works. Keep hydrated also...
